CAROL STREAM, Ill. - The University of Dubuque baseball team split the doubleheader against Aurora University on Saturday with a 14-6 loss in game one, before the Spartans rebounded in game two with a convincing 11-3 victory.
Game 1
Game one belonged to Aurora after getting out to a 13-0 lead through the first five innings. The Spartans finally got things going offensively in the sixth inning after
Cameron Pratt hit a solo homerun to left field and then followed up by an RBI single from
JD Schaffer and RBI double off the bat of
Vic Pico. The Spartans would add two more runs in the seventh off Pratt and
George Sherlock RBI singles.
Game 2
The Spartans fell behind early again in game two, but was able to tie the game in the sixth inning off a RBI ground out by Sherlock. In the final two innings of play, the Spartans would record 10 hits, resulting in nine runs that blew the game wide open for the Spartans. The Spartans closed out Aurora in the bottom of the ninth inning with three straight outs.
Angel Reyes started on the mound in game two, throwing 6.0 innings while allowing only three runs on five hits.
On the day, Pratt finished his day going 5-9 at the plate with four RBIs, including the solo homerun in game one. Pico went 4-10 at the plate with two doubles and an RBI.
Aidan Elfering hit a two-run homerun in game two and finished with three total RBIs on the day.

Will Sullivan, Sherlock, and
Justin Hausner all recorded multi-hit days.
The Spartans are now 4-5 overall on the season.
