Peer Logs First Goal of the Season in Loss to Lawrence University

APPLETON, Wis. – The University of Dubuque men's hockey team was back in action Saturday night taking on the Lawrence University Vikings for game two of the series. The Spartans logged one goal on the night and played in their third overtime game in the last five games. Although the Spartans were able to pick up one point in the conference standings, the Spartans fell in overtime to the Vikings 2-1.
 
The Spartans took the early lead halfway through the first period as Carson Peer scored his first goal of season off assists from Aleksey Zielinski and Jake Lamberty. The Spartans held the lead for over 20 minutes before the Vikings tied the game. After a scoreless third period, the Spartans and Vikings went to overtime.The Spartans were unable to score the sudden death goal as the Vikings ended the game with three minutes to go in overtime. The Spartans left Appleton with one conference point.
 
The Spartans had 34 shots on goal with Nikita Borodayenko leading the Spartans with five shots. Max Erstad and Zach Burfoot each logged four shots apiece, while Matt Downie and Makism Lakic tallied three shots. Erik Chaffe was in goal for the Spartans making 27 saves, playing 61:20 of game time. 
 
The Spartans are now 1-19-3 on the season.

The Spartans return to the ice next Friday, February 14 on the road to for the final conference regular season series next weekend when they battle No. 3 Aurora University. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m.
