Men's Hockey Falls to No. 2 Ranked Aurora University

AURORA, Ill. – The University of Dubuque men's hockey team hit the road for their final NCHA conference play of the season as they took on the No. 2 Aurora University. The Spartans competed tough for most of the game holding the second ranked Aurora to two goals after two periods. Aurora found the edge in the third period logging five goals in the third to pull away from the Spartans by a score of 7-0.
 
The Spartans gave Aurora a tough challenge during the first period as shots were pretty even as the Spartans put four shots to Aurora's eight through the first period and trailed 1-0 after one period. The Spartans again used strong defense to hold Aurora to one second period goal. The Spartans had six shots in the second period to hang around with Aurora. Aurora then found the edge in the third period pulling away from the Spartans scoring five third period goals as the Spartans fell to second ranked Aurora 7-0.
 
The Spartans were led by Makism Lakic in the shot column as he registered five shots on the night. Brandon Rossetti logged three shots, while Jake Lamberty followed up with two of his own. In goal for the Spartans was sophomore Erik Chaffe who logged 59:43 of time on ice and made 38 saves. The Spartans won 32 of the 59 faceoffs taken with a win percentage of 54% on the night. Nikita Borodayenko and Nolan Underwood each won nine faceoffs on the night.
 
The Spartans fall to 1-20-3 on the season.

The Spartans are back in action for the final game of the regular season tomorrow Saturday, February 15 as they take on the Aurora for the second game of the conference double header with opening puck drop set for 3:00 p.m.
