AURORA, Ill. – The University of Dubuque men's hockey team competed in their final game of the season against the second ranked Aurora University Spartans for the second game of the series. Just like the first match up the Spartans were tough against Aurora for a majority of the game, allowing three goals in the first two periods. The Spartans scored twice today before eventually falling to Aurora by a score of 7-2.
The Spartans put together four shots in the first period and were not able find the back of the net. The Spartans finally found the back of the net at 3:15 in the second period with a goal from
Nolan Underwood off an assist from
Brock Weimer to tie the game at 1-1. The Spartans then allowed two goals in the second period, trailing 3-1 heading to the final period of the season. Aurora would go on to log four goals in the third period with the Spartans adding one final goal at 16:54 of the third period from senior
Jake Lamberty. The goal was scored on the power play with assists from
Brett Morich and
Max Erstad.
Morich led the Spartans with five shots, while
Zach Burfoot logged three and
Nolan Underwood and
Jake Lamberty each had two. Lamberty and
Chase Cooke each had two blocked shots defensively for the Spartans.
Nikita Borodayenko led the Spartans with five face off wins. In his final game,
Chris Curr played all 60 minutes en route to making 32 saves on the day.
The Spartans conclude their season at 1-21-3 overall and 1-15-2 in the NCHA.
