DECORAH, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's basketball team won their rematch against the Luther College Norse on Wednesday night 73-67 as four Spartans reached double-figures with
Morgan Hawkins posting a 12 point, 10 rebound double-double.
In the first meeting between these two teams, the Spartans only scored 51 points for the entire game and lost by 13 points. This time around would be different as the Spartans rallied off 44 first half points nearly matching their game one total against the Norse. The Spartans led for nearly the entire game and picked up a much needed win in their race in the conference standings.Â
The Spartans scored the first five points of the game to get out to a quick lead. The Norse would respond with the next six points to lead for the only time in the game at 6-5. With 4:11 left in the first quarter and an 11-8 lead, the Spartans would go on a 29-11 for over a 10-minute stretch between the last five minutes of the first and first five minutes of the second gave the Spartans their biggest lead of the night at 40-21. The Norse would cut the deficit to 15 at the half as the Spartans led 44-29.
Neither team could buy a bucket in the first two minutes of the third quarter, but the Norse were able to go on a run and trimmed the Spartans lead to only seven points at 51-44 with 2:05 remaining in the third, but the Spartans maintained a double-digit lead through three quarters. In the fourth quarter the Spartans were able to hold off one last rally for the Norse. The Norse got to within five late as the Spartans won 73-67 in the rematch.

Four Spartans finished in double-figures as
Mia Miller and
Samantha McDonald had a team-high 14 points. Miller had a double-double in the last game for the Spartans and even flirted with a triple-double tonight, adding eight rebounds and seven assists. Hawkins had a double-double tonight finishing with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Madi Petersen had a 12-point outing and was able to secure seven rebounds.
The Spartans made 17-25 free throws tonight and made more free throws than the Norse attempted (12) and were also able to win the rebounding battle 45-36.
The Spartans are now 9-11 overall, 6-5 in the A-R-C and have won two straight games.Â
