Men's Lacrosse Drops Home Opener

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's lacrosse team lost 16-8 in their home opener on Wednesday night at Oyen Field to the North Central College (IL) Cardinals.

The Cardinals got on the board first on Wednesday night, but the Spartans answered with an Andrew Beaudoin goal off a Sam Todd assist. After the tying goal, the Cardinals rallied off four straight goals to take a 5-1 lead early into the second quarter. Yet again the duo of Beaudoin and Todd scored and assisted the Spartans' second goal of the game. A big stretch in the closing minutes of the second quarter featured three straight goals by the Spartans to pull within 7-5 at the half.

The Spartans were outscored 5-1 in the third with the lone goal from Brendan Yamanaka off an assist from Eric Brostek. The two fourth-quarter goals by the Spartans were from Aidan Culligan and Sam Todd scoring the man-up goal.

Culligan and Todd both finished with three points, while Beaudoin had a multi-goal game to give him two points. Todd also finished with 10 of the 23 total shots on goal by the Spartans. Nolan Nagy finished with six saves tonight in goal.

The Spartans were 2-4 in extra man opportunities, while the Spartans were 16-27 at the face-off circle.

The Spartans fall 0-2 on the season.
