Spartans Outlasted by No. 10/13 Knights

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's basketball team had their second match-up with the No. 10/23 Wartburg College Knights on a snowy Wednesday night. The Spartans outscored the Knights in the second half, but a strong first half by the ranked Knights was the difference in a 64-55 loss inside Stoltz Sports Center.

The Spartans struggled to get anything going offensively, shooting 25% from the field, which resulted in a 21-11 deficit to open up the game. The Spartans still could not get many shots to fall in the second quarter, but the defensive intensity picked up, holding the Knights to 23.53% shooting. The Knights led 34-21 at the half.

The Spartans were able to finally knock down shots out of the half shooting over 50% from the field in the third quarter. After the Knights led by 14 through three quarters, the Spartans would trim the Knights lead to single digits and were able to outscore the Knights 17-12 in the fourth, but came up short in a nine point loss to the Knights.

Mia Miller finished with a team-high 16 points, adding five rebounds and three assists. Christina Simonetti was the only other Spartan in double figures with 10 on 5-8 shooting and snagging six rebounds.

The Spartans fall to 9-13 overall and 6-7 in conference play.
