MEQUON, Wis. – The University of Dubuque men's hockey team fell in their series finale against Concordia University-Wisconsin 4-2 on Saturday. The Spartans will return to action on Tuesday against Saint Mary's (Minn.).
The Falcons (5-5-0, 4-4-0 NCHA) scored three times in the first period to take a 3-0 lead going into the first intermission. The Spartans (4-8-0, 1-7-0 NCHA) killed a penalty early in the second period but were unable to capitalize on their own power play, and the score remained 3-0 after two periods. The Falcons scored early in the third period to extend their lead before
Andon Coles scored to cut the deficit back to three.
Nikita Borodaenko scored with seven seconds remaining and the final score was 4-2 in favor of the Falcons.
Borodaenko finished with a goal and an assist on six shots. He also won 12 of his 21 face-offs.
Zach Cline tallied two assists and blocked a Falcons shot. Coles scored on one of his four shots and
Jack Paweski added an assist on five shots.
Jesse English and
Aleksey Zielinski blocked two shots each to lead the Spartans. In goal,
Dazza Mitchell made 22 saves across 56 minutes on ice.

The Spartans will travel to Winona, Minnesota to take on Saint Mary's University in a nonconference match on Tuesday, December 9 at 7:00 p.m. The Cardinals (5-3-1, 3-1-0 MIAC) pose the final test for the Spartans before the holiday break.
