Women's Soccer Season Ends in A-R-C Championship Game

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's soccer team's season came to an end on Saturday afternoon and a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to the Loras College Duhawks in the American Rivers Conference Women's Soccer Championship game.

The Spartans were playing in their first conference title game since 2014 and the anticipation was high as they welcomed the Duhawks, who the Spartans upset in the regular season to be able to host the title game this afternoon.

The Spartans and Duhawks went back and forth for a majority of the game as the Duhawks ended up with just one more shot on goal (6-5). The big difference was the corner kick opportunities as the Duhawks had 12, whereas the Spartans were held without a corner kick.

The corner kick set would come into play late in the game as the Duhawks were able to capitalize on a corner kick with less than four minutes remaining to give them the 1-0 lead and the eventual victory.

The five shots on goal for the Spartans came from Alyssa Tranchita (2) and one each from Brooke Clark, Virginia Speltz, and Riley Trudeau. Samantha Jurgens recorded four saves in goal this afternoon.

The Spartans end their incredible season with a 11-2-6 record.
