#18 Volleyball Drops A-R-C Championship, Sets Sights on NCAA Tournament

DUBUQUE, Iowa  - The University of Dubuque women's volleyball team lost 3-1 (16-25, 25-17, 28-26, 25-15) to Coe College in the A-R-C Tournament Championship Saturday evening. The Kohawks receives the conference's automatic qualifier while the Spartans will likely receive an at-large bid to the national tournament set to be announced on Monday. The Kohawks stopped a 19-game home win streak of the Spartans.

The first set was a back-and-forth affair as both teams were knotted at 14 apiece before the #18 Spartans (25-4, 8-0 A-R-C) won the next six points to take a commanding 20-14 lead. The Spartans won five of the next seven points to clinch the set 25-16. UD took an early 7-4 lead in the second set until the Kohawks (21-9, 7-1 A-R-C) made a six-point run to give them a lead they would not relinquish. The Kohawks took the second set 25-17. The third set was an instant classic, as the teams were tied five times in the final fifteen points. The Kohawks won the final two points and took the third set 28-26. The Kohawks rode their momentum to several long runs in the fourth set, building a large lead early. A Spartans' comeback attempt fell short, as the Kohawks won the set 25-15 and secured the tournament championship.

Delainey Winkel added 15 kills and 12 digs to her season total in Saturday's match. Ashley Glennon tallied 12 kills and 13 digs in the loss. On defense, Taylor Bechen led the Spartans with 24 digs and Halee Clare added two solo blocks and two blocking assists in the four-set affair. At the net, Alexis Kammerer and Ashlyn McGinnis notched 23 and 17 assists, respectively.

By virtue of winning the conference tournament, the Kohawks will advance to the national tournament. The #18 Spartans, ranked 17th in the NPI prior to Saturday's contest, should receive an at-large bid to the national tournament. Both teams will find out who they will play during the NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Tournament Selection Show, which will be streamed live on the NCAA's website at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, November 17.
