MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's basketball team dropped their first game of the season on Saturday night in their opening game of the Cornell Classic. The Spartans faced a tough Saint Benedict team and lost by a final score of 75-42 at the Small Athletic and Wellness Center.
The Spartans were not able to get anything going offensively in the opening half as they were held to just four made field goals in 20 minutes. The biggest difference in the game was the Spartans' 32 turnovers which led to 37 points for Saint Benedict.
Christina Simonetti recorded her second straight double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds in just 21 minutes. Simonetti recorded seven offensive rebounds and was a perfect 9-9 at the charity stripe.
The Spartans fall to 2-1 on the season.
