DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's soccer team traveled across town Wednesday night for the Key City rivalry with Loras College. Despite a strong effort, the Spartans fell to the Duhawks 2-0.
In the first half, UD had multiple shots on goal that forced the Loras goalkeeper into action. At 6:27, Luka Tomic put a shot low and to the right of the goal, which was saved. Less than a minute later, Ryder Syverson put a shot on target to give the Duhawk keeper even more trouble. Jonatan Banuelos had a strong shot to the bottom left of the goal saved at the 20-minute mark. Near the end of the half, Eddie Papis also had a shot attempt saved. At the halftime whistle, the Spartans and Duhawks were locked in a stalemate.
Nic Hubbard was called into action quickly in the second half, stepping up to make a flurry of saves early on. Loras broke the deadlock at 54:58 to go up, 1-0. Draek Littler almost found the breakthrough for the Spartans at 65:21 with his shot down the center saved. Shortly after Loras made it 2-0. UD tried to get back into the game late with a barrage of shots, the closest of which came off the foot of Jonatan Banuelos, which hit the crossbar. The match ended with the Spartans falling to their Key City rivals, 2-0.
Eddie Papis and Jonatan Banuelos led the Spartans on the night with three shots each. Nic Hubbard had seven saves in goal.

The Spartans will return home to face Coe College on Saturday, October 25. UD will celebrate senior night at Oyen Field with game time slated for 3:30 p.m.
