DUBUQUE, Iowa - In the final non-conference game of the season for the University of Dubuque women's basketball team, after a slow start the Spartans were able to rally in the fourth quarter to defeat the Concordia University (WI) Falcons 50-47 inside the Stoltz Sports Center.
After a 14 point first half where the Spartans could not get anything going offensively, they were able to hold down the fort on the defensive end, holding the Falcons to only 24 first half points. Trailing by 10 at the half, the Spartans finally clicked on the offensive end scoring 19 points in the third quarter making eight shots at just under 50% from the field. The fourth quarter would be turning point the Spartans needed as they held the Falcons to only three made baskets and was able to knock down seven free throws down the stretch, none bigger than two by
MaCalyn Flores icing the game with under three seconds remaining.
Madi Petersen scored a career-high going 6-6 from the field and making both three-pointers she attempted to finish with a game-high 15 points in 16 minutes on the floor.
Samantha McDonald added 13 points and six rebounds off the bench while
Brynn Haas scored 11 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Haas has now scored in double figures in seven straight games.Â
The bench was crucial tonight for the Spartans, scoring 33 of the 50 points.Â
The Spartans move to 4-8 this season.
