Sieverding Picks Up Win No. 300 as Spartans Win Final Non-Conference Game

Sieverding is just the second coach in program history to eclipse 300 career wins

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's basketball team picked up a big time win on home court on Saturday afternoon as the Spartans (8-4) defeated the Gustavus Adolphus College Golden Gusties (9-3) by a final score of 80-64 for head coach Robbie Sieverding's 300th career win.

Only one coach prior to tonight has ever eclipsed 300 career wins for the University of Dubuque men's basketball team. In his 18th season, Sieverding joins Jon Davison (371 career wins) as the only other head coach to reach this milestone.

To open the game, the Gusties would score the game's first basket before the Spartans responded with a 12-0 run to open their lead to 10 early. The Spartans kept it up leading 20-4 and really gave the Gusties problems on the defensive end of the floor of the Spartans. After leading by 12 at the half, the Gusties got the Spartans lead to single digits on two different occasions, however a 12-2 run over a three minute span late into the second half gave the Spartans a comfortable 18 point lead. The Gusties had no last run in them as the Spartans kept the energy up all 40 minutes defensively.

"Tonight we played our best game of the season against a really solid Gustavus team. Grady had a nice game and Dylan stepped up and gave us some quality minutes. We defended really well as a group tonight and hopefully we can continue to build off that effort."

Grady Thompson scored a career-high 23 points tonight knocking down four three-pointers and going 7-9 at the free throw line. Jaylin McCants posted a 15 point, 11 rebound double-double while shooting 90% (9-10) from the free throw line. Dylan Hibicke scored 11 points while Jacob Williams scored 10 off the bench.

The Spartans were much better from the charity stripe this game then the previous outing making 28-34 (82.4%) at the line. The Spartans assisted on 13 of their 21 made field goals.
