Men's Hockey Opens Weekend Series With 3-0 Loss to Foresters

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque men's hockey team returned home Friday afternoon for their final home series of the season hosting the Lake Forest College Foresters. The Spartans looked to keep the momentum up after claiming a win in their previous outing, however, the Spartans fell today 3-0 to the Foresters.
 
The Spartans logged five shots in the first period as Brock Weimer led with three in the opening period and finished with four total. After the first the Spartans trailed 2-0. The  second period favored the Spartans as they recorded 17 in the second. Nikita Borodayenko led the Spartans with all seven of his shots coming in the second period. Of the 26 shots on goal, 14 of them were during power play chances. Both teams tightened up on defense during the third period as the Spartans had four shots in the third period while also only allowing four Lake Forest shots.
 
Other Spartans with multiple shots on the day were Kaden Dundas, Max Erstad, Nolan Underwood, and Owen Hardy. The Spartans won 29 face offs. Borodayenko led with 12, while Thomas Gazich won eight face offs and Jake Lamberty won five. Goalie Erik Chaffe logged 58:43 of ice time making 23 saves on the afternoon.
 
The Spartans are now 1-16-3 overall on the season.
