Weimer and Hardy Log Two Points Each in Loss to Gustavus Adolphus

DUBUQUE, Iowa- The University of Dubuque men's hockey team finished the weekend series against the Gustavus Adolphus College Golden Gusties on Friday afternoon at ImOn Arena. The Spartans jumped out and maintained a 2-0 lead into the third period, but fell short as the Spartans dropped the series to Gustavus Adolphus 4-2.
 
The defensive battle had no scoring in the first 36 minutes of the game with UD shooting twice and holding off the 16 shot attack from the Gusties. The first score of the afternoon happened at 16:57 of the second period when UD's Brock Weimer scored his first goal of the season in his second game as a Spartan with the assist going to Nolan Underwood and Owen Hardy. Right after the second intermission the Spartans attacked quickly scoring :26 seconds into the third period this time by Justin Kingery with assists from Hardy and Weimer.

UD finished with 13 shots in the loss and were led by three Spartans who all finished with a pair of shots. The trio of Justin Kingery, Nikita Borodayenko, and Brock Weimer all grabbed two shots each. The Spartans won 23 faceoffs and were led by Max Messier with nine. Lyncoln Bielenberg-Howarth won five and Nikita Borodayenko and Justin Kingery had three wins each.
 
The Golden Gusties rallied from behind and scored four goals in last 10 minutes to seal the deal and send the Spartans to 0-12-1 on the season.
 
Erik Chaffe took the loss after having played 58:32 in goal for the Spartans and made 32 saves on the afternoon (16 in the first period, eight in the second and eight in the third).
 
Up Next
The Spartans will now be back in action Tuesday January 7 at 3:00 p.m. against Saint Mary's University (Minn.) at ImOn Arena.
