Gazich Nets Goal in Home Loss to Saint Mary's

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque men's hockey team was back in action Tuesday afternoon to take the Saint Mary's University Cardinals in a make-up game re-scheduled from December 13. The Spartans were led by Thomas Gazich on the afternoon as he netted the only goal of the Spartans. The Cardinals came out on top 8-1.

The Cardinals scored 3:23 into the first period and forced the Spartans to play defense for most of the game as they took a 1-0 lead quickly right off the opening faceoff. Four minutes later the Cardinals scored again to go up 2-0 on the Spartans. The Spartans had a lot of great looks on net as they had 10 shots on goal in the opening period.

Late in the second period, Thomas Gazich scored his first goal of the season with assists from Owen Hardy and Chase Cooke at 15:08 of the second frame. The Cardinals would score two more goals in the third period to defeat the Spartans by a score of 8-1.

Nikita Borodayenko led the Spartans with five shots, Brett Morich logged four shots, and Justin Kingery and Thomas Gazich finished with three shots. Goalie Chris Curr logged 40 minutes of ice time making 17 saves. Erik Chaffe finished the final 20 minutes and finished the 10 saves.

With the loss the Spartans are now 0-13-2 on the season.
