STORM LAKE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's basketball team led by senior guard
Jaylin McCants jumped out to a big lead and were able to preserve it in the end, picking up a big conference road win over the Buena Vista University Beavers 68-57 on Saturday afternoon.
McCants scored 16 of the Spartans first 18 points of the game and started the game sizzling hot, making his first 13 shots from the field. With the hot start from McCants, the Spartans jumped out to a 29-10 lead with 7:22 left in the first half. The Spartans lead would get cut to eight at the half as the Spartans were held without another point during the Beavers 11-0 run. The Spartans were able to regain their double-digit lead in the second half and even led by as many as 24 points with 8:33 remaining in the game.
McCants was very efficient on his career night, shooting 17-21 (80.95%) from the field and 3-6 (50%) from the perimeter. The senior guard was responsible for 17 of the Spartans 26 made field goals in the game.
Jacob Williams finished with eight points and eight rebounds, while
Jalen Scott added seven points, five rebounds, and four assists.

"Really good defensive effort tonight on the road. Tonight was a special performance for Jaylin hitting his first 13 shots. He was hitting tough shots and really carried us tonight for a large part of the game. We get to finally get back home and play in front of our fans which our guys are looking forward to."
The Spartans are now 10-4 overall and 4-1 in conference play.

The Spartans will be back at home on Wednesday, January 15 when the face the Coe College Kohawks at 7:30 p.m. from the Stoltz Sports Center. Four of the next five games will be at home with the lone road game being down the street at Loras College.
