DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque women's hockey team earned a hard-fought 6-4 victory over the Northland College Lumberjills on Friday night at ImOn Arena, fueled by a strong third-period performance on UD student night at the arena.

The Spartans started quickly in the opening period.
Aleah Giddings scored at 8:35 with an assist from
Alexandria Simmons. Simmons then found the back of the net herself at 12:35, assisted by
Malia Tetreault, to extend the Spartans' lead to 2-0. Northland responded late in the period with their first goal at 18:12, cutting the Spartans' lead to 2-1 heading into the second.

Northland carried momentum into much of the second period after grabbed their first lead of the night. The Lumberjills score at 4:09 of the second and garnered their first lead of the game 3-2 after a goal at 17:46 in the second. Just before the period ended, Northland added to the lead at 19:41 on a power play. However, the Spartans quickly answered with a critical goal at 19:51, after
Madilynn Schiile scored with an assist from Simmons to pull Dubuque within one, 4-3, heading into the third.

The Spartans took over in the final period.
Bree Hallson tied the game at 6:51, scoring off assists from
Madigan Depuydt and
Arwen Sims.
Peighton Walker gave the University of Dubuque the lead at 11:05 with an unassisted goal, her first of the season. Schiile sealed the victory for the Spartans with her second goal of the night, scoring unassisted at 16:55 to bring the final score to 6-4.

Kara Zelyck played the opening 40 minutes in the net and stopped 11 shots.
Molly Jex (1-1) came in for relief in the third period and earned her first collegiate career victory, keeping Northland scoreless during her time in net. She has 69 saves with a .920 save percentage for the Spartans in 2024-25.

The Spartans dominated the faceoff circle, winning 32 of 49 drops, with
Zoe Cupples leading the way with 11 wins.

UD  improves to 3-9-1 on the season and will host the Northland College Lumberjills on Saturday at 2:01 p.m. at ImOn Arena. The contest will be broadcast live on KCRG-TV on local channel 9.2 for fans in the tri-states.Â
