DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's tennis opened their 2024-25 season at home and took home a 5-2 victory over Ripon College on Frank Farber Tennis Courts. Nearly ideal conditions for a fall afternoon match brought head coach
Chad Fenwick his first win of the season.
One change fans might notice in tennis, the team who wins two out of three doubles matches will be awarded one point for doubles victory, so this season the matches will be scored with seven points. The Spartans captured the point by claiming #1 doubles with
Sarah Wilde,
Jayda Floyd by a 6-4 score. The #2 doubles team of
Molly Jex and
Adriana Benavente won 6-3 and the #3 doubles team of
Breann Kieliszewski and
Kadia Cole lost 4-6.
In singles play, UD won four singles en route to their victory.
Sarah Wilde at #1 singles fell behind early in the first set, but rallied back. She dropped the first set 4-6, won the second set 6-2 and won the match after capturing the tie break 10-7.
Adriana Benavente made quick work at #2 doubles 6-3, 6-0. At #3 singles
Molly Jex won a first set tie break 7-5 and won the second set 6-2.
Breann Kieliszewski grabbed the #5 singles 6-2, 6-1.
The Spartans host UW-Stevens Point in both women's and men's action beginning on Sunday, Sept. 1 at 12:00 p.m. on the Frank Farber Tennis Courts.
