DUBUQUE, Iowa - On Senior Day, the University of Dubuque was able to overcome a tight loss in game one of today's doubleheader against Nebraska Wesleyan University to win game two and win the series over the Prairie Wolves.
The Spartans lost game one 6-7 and fought to comeback a few different times, but the story of game one was the Spartans leaving a total of 18 runners on base throughout the game. After a 3-3 day at the plate on Friday,
Colin Husko went 4-5 in game one that included three singles and a triple. Husko was also hit by a pitch, which has now happened in all three games this weekend.
Jake Cekander had two RBI's on three hits and
Luke Burgos was able to walk three times.
The Spartans were able to shutout the Prairie Wolves in game two 8-0 as
Aidan Elfering pitched 8.0 innings allowing no runs and giving up only six hits. Elfering was able to strikeout nine batters on his way to a fifth win of the season.
Kyle Radi and
Colin Husko each had a multiple hit game with two hits a piece as Radi drove in three runs off a bases clearing double to right center.
On the weekend Husko was fantastic at the plate going 9-12 with a double and a triple. The sophomore also went 2-2 on stolen base attempts.
The Spartans move to 21-14 overall on the season and 10-10 in conference play.
