Spartans Fall After Late Duhawk Rally in the Ninth

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque baseball team had a 3-2 lead entering the ninth inning, but a late Loras College rally gave them the 3-4 victory over the Spartans on Monday in a make-up game from a few weeks ago.

How it Happened
  • Loras took the lead in the first before the Spartans very own JD Schaffer tied it up in the bottom of the second with a RBI single up the middle.
  • The Spartans then took the lead in the bottom of the third after Jake Cekander hit into a groundout, but Colin Husko was able to score.
  • Loras tied it in the fourth, but the Spartans answered yet again as Aidan Elfering grounded out as Micah O'Neal crossed the plate.
  • The Spartans held a 3-2 lead into the ninth inning, but Loras scored twice and held the Spartans in the bottom of the inning.

Husko finished the day 3-5 at the plate while Schaffer added two hits. Husko and Schaffer were the only Spartans to record multiple hits against the Duhawks on Monday. Maguire Fitzgerald started on the mound and nearly went a complete game with 8.1 innings pitched. Fitzgerald only allowed three earned runs and was able to strikeout five batters.

The Spartans move to 19-12 overall on the season and 8-8 in A-R-C play.
