PELLA, Iowa - The University of Dubuque baseball team opened their three game series against the Central College Dutch on Friday afternoon with a 12-4 victory,
Johnny Blake pitched his fifth win of the season and
Luke Burgos tied the second most hits in a game in school history after a 4-6 day at the plate.
Central scored the first run of the game in the first inning, but it was all Spartans after that scoring 12 unanswered runs up until the seventh inning. The Spartans had the chance to end the game after seven innings, but Central hit a two-run homer to extend the game. Central would hit a solo shot in the ninth inning before the Spartans closed out the game.
The most hits for any Spartan in baseball history is five in a game and Burgos got close to tying that record getting four hits in six plate appearances. Burgos was also one of four Spartans with two RBI's with
Aidan Elfering,
Colin Husko, and
Maguire Fitzgerald joining him.
Blake got a team-best fifth win of the season on Friday pitching six innings and didn't allow an earned run. Blake now has five games with double-digit strikeouts with 13 in today's game.
The Spartans move to 18-10 overall and 7-6 in A-R-C play.
