DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque softball team took on a non-conference opponent on Thursday as the Spartans played two games against the UW-Platteville Pioneers. Both games favored the Pioneers as the visitors won both games in shortened five inning games.
In the first game, the Spartans got runs off a
Katie Hayes single to right field in the first inning and then two runs in the third inning off a stolen base to home by
Amber Wisely and then
Bailey Ford drove in an RBI for the Spartans third run of the game.
Six of the Spartans eight hits in game one came from the trio of Hayes, Ford, and Allison as they all had a pair of hits.
Ciaran Rigby took only her second loss of the season pitching four full innings.
The Spartans in game two fell behind early and even experienced a lightning delay, but finally got on the board in the third inning as
Chloe Hild was able to reach first off a Pioneer error to score a run.
Zoe Connell then singled to right center with the bases loaded scoring another run.
Connell contributed two of the Spartans three hits in game two.
Paige Manning got the start fro the Spartans on the mound for three innings and then
Ally Gullette finished the final two frames.
The Spartans move to 6-18 overall on the season.
