CLERMONT, Fla. - The University of Dubuque softball team fell twice in two eight inning games on Saturday with narrow losses to Chatham Univeristy and Neumann University at the Spring Games in Florida.
In game one against Chatham, the Spartans scored two runs in the first inning as
Katie Hayes doubled to center field. Chatham would tie the game in the third inning with a two-run homerun and would then take the lead in the fourth inning on an RBI ground out.
Bailey Ford pulled through in the sixth inning for the Spartans with a single to left field to tie the game at 3-3. The game would go to extras where Chatham would walk it off with a single as the Spartans fell in game one 3-4.
Jaelyn Blakemore went 7.1 innings allowing five hits while striking out a pair.
Ciaran Rigby was in for the Spartans facing the final two batters.
In game two, the Spartans faced Neumann University and again the Spartans got out to the early lead as Ford hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Aubrey Morris in the third inning. Neumann tied the game the next inning off a fielder's choice. The Spartans went to extras again, but in the top of the eighth Neumann was able to score two on a single and then two batters later doubled to lead 4-1. Trailing by three runs, the Spartans were unable to get anyone on base to end the game.
Paige Manning pitched the entire game giving up four runs (three earned) and eight hits in 37 batters faced.

The Spartans will play their final two games in Florida tomorrow when they face Illinois College and Penn State Berks on Sunday afternoon.
