Men's Hockey Unable to Overcome #12 St. Norbert

DUBUQUE, Iowa - In the final weekend of the inaugural season for the University of Dubuque men's hockey team, the Spartans welcomed in the #12 St. Norbert College Green Knights. The Spartans battled well against the ranked Green Knights, but a goal in each period by the Green Knights led to a 3-0 victory for the visitors.

Out of the gate, the Spartans were able to play right alongside the Green Knights before the visitors got on the board late in the first period to grab the lead. The Green Knights managed a power play goal in the second and an even strength goal in the third period. The Spartans were able to get 16 shots on goal, but gave up 38 on the defensive end. Penalties played a big part in the game as the Spartans had nine total penalties for 29 minutes and had to play prevent defense for 19 minutes of on ice time.

Phil Schader led the Spartans with five blocked shots with a few coming one man down and preventing shots towards the net. The Spartans won 23 faceoff attempts as Max Messier won seven, Patrick Toomey had six wins, and Nick Wieben & Jake Lamberty each won five. Chris Curr played the entire game in goal recording 35 saves.
