Men's Basketball Win Streak Extends to Five as Spartans Win A-R-C Opener Over Norse

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's basketball team had their home conference opener tonight against the Luther College Norse. The Spartans got out to a commanding lead and held on for the 76-64 victory over the Norse to extend their winning streak to five games.

The game was within a possession for the first 11:30 of the first half, but with 8:30 left in the opening half, the Spartans finished on a 20-5 run to go up by 17 at the half. Jacob Williams had a dominate first half, scoring 17 of his 19 points in just 12:37 minutes on the floor in the half. The Spartans continued their dominance into the second half building a lead as big as 25 points before the Norse made a small run towards the end to finish with the Spartans with a 12 point victory and their 11th straight victory over Luther.

Hear from Robbie Sieverding
"I thought our guys played well in the first half and built a nice lead. Jalen Scott had a nice game and has really started playing well of late. Jacob also gave us a nice lift off the bench tonight. We didn't execute and defend as good as we would have liked in the second half, but we were fortunate to have built that lead. Conference wins are never easy especially on the road and now we need to turn our attention to Simpson."

Three other Spartans reached double-figures alongside Williams as Jaylin McCants finished with 17 points while Grady Thompson and Jalen Scott had 13 points each. For the game, the Spartans shot 26-50 (52%) from the field and 20-25 (80%) from the charity stripe. The Norse had nine more turnovers in the game than the Spartans and the Spartans were able to take full advantage with a 22-9 advantage in points off turnovers.

The Spartans move to 6-2 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
