DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's basketball team hosted the inaugural Paxton's Pack Classic on Sunday where they defeated the University of Olivet Comets 65-57 after a dominating showing in the third quarter in their opening game of the classic. The opening day saw the exact same score for the two contests on Sunday.
The Spartans struggled offensively out of the gate in this game as Olivet was able to shoot 70 percent in the opening quarter and 62.5 percent for the first half. The Spartans kept the Olivet lead within reach forcing numerous turnovers to only trail by nine at the half.
The Spartans forced 28 turnovers in the game and finally was able to start getting shots to fall while Olivet went ice cold from the field. The difference in the game was how the Spartans rallied in the third quarter, outscoring Olivet 24-8, scoring nearly as many points in the third as they did the entire first half. The Spartans had their biggest lead of the game late in the fourth quarter, leading 64-49.Â
Brynn Haas led all scorers with 19 points on 7-11 shooting.
Morgan Hawkins added 16 points and seven rebounds. The Spartans were great from the free throw line going 23-28 as well as passing the ball, assisting on 12 of the 20 made field goals in the game.Â
The Spartans move to 3-7 on the season.Â

The Spartans will face UW-River Falls tomorrow in the final game of Paxton's Classic at 3:30 p.m. UW-River Falls beat Loras College in their opening game of the Classic and will play the University of Olivet (Mich.) at 1:00 p.m.
