LINCOLN, Neb. - The University of Dubuque women's basketball team held on to a slim 71-69 road victory on Saturday afternoon over the Nebraska Wesleyan University Prairie Wolves.

Isabella Tierney was fouled on a fast break with the Spartans leading 70-69. She would make the first free throw and missed the second with the host Prairie Wolves collecting the defensive rebound. NWU turned the ball over on a bad pass and a steal by
Samantha McDonald and UD fouled with 13 seconds left in the game. NWU had one more chance, but missed on a driving layup and grabbed the offensive board, but failed to convert the tip-in as time expired.
Samantha McDonald led the Spartans in scoring with 20 points on 7-13 shooting from the field. The duo of
Brynn Haas and
Madi Petersen each added 10 points.
Morgan Hawkins crashed the boards and ended the day with 15 rebounds (six offensive and nine defensive).
UD made 27-57 attempts from the field (47.4%), sank 15-25 free throw attempts (60%), and were a chilly 2-12 from the three point area (16.7%). The Spartans out rebounded NWU 38-35 and held them to 41.3% shooting from the field (26-63).
UD will travel to face the Augustana College Vikings on Tuesday, Dec. 17 at 7:00 p.m. in Roy J. Carver Center in Rock Island, Ill. UD will host the UD Women's Paxton Classic on Dec. 29-30. The Spartans open play against the University of Olivet on Dec. 29 at 6:30 p.m. and will play UW-River Falls on Dec. 30 at 3:30 p.m.
