DE PERE, Wis. – The University of Dubuque men's hockey team opened up NCHA action on Friday night as they traveled to take on the St. Norbert College Green Knights. In the first game of the weekend series, the Spartans scored twice in the third period in a 5-2 loss.
The Spartans first goal in the third period occurred six minutes into the period as
Nikita Borodayenko scored his first goal in a Spartans uniform on the power play, finishing off assists by
Brett Morich and
Matt Downie. Minutes later, the Spartans found the back of the net once again as freshman
Owen Hardy scored his first collegiate goal. Hardy's goal was assisted by
Lyncoln Bielenberg-Howarth and
Thomas Gazich.
The Spartans finished the game with eight block shots defensively, faceoff winning percentage of 40.3%, and 12 penalty minutes, seven less than the Green Knights. Two goalies saw action as
Ryan Piros played the first 29:50 of the game, recording 22 saves.
Erik Chaffe played an even 30 minutes with 19 saves, combining as a team to finish with 41 saves.
