SUPERIOR, Wis. - The University of Dubuque men's hockey team scored a late goal against the Lawrence University Vikings to end the game in a 1-1 tie to finish off the UW-Superior Showdown.
The Vikings scored the game's first goal 4:17 into the second period to take the 1-0 lead. The 1-0 score would remain the same for much of the remainder of the game until 44 seconds left when the Spartans pulled the goalie and had an extra attacker and would capitalize off an
Owen Hardy goal off assists from
Layten Liffrig and
Nikita Borodayenko.
Neither team would score in the overtime period and the Vikings would make one goal in the shootout to win the three on three shootout.
Borodayenko and
Jack Paweski led the way with four shots each for the Spartans.
Ryan Piros played the entire game and recorded 20 saves.
The Spartans are now 0-8-2 on the season.
