DUBUQUE, Iowa - The 2024 NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championships are set to start tomorrow, November 21 as the University of Dubuque women's volleyball team is back in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2019. The Spartans are set to face the Case Western Reserve University Spartans on Thursday in the opening game of the Hope College regional.
For just the sixth time in the history of the University of Dubuque women's volleyball program, the Spartans are back in the NCAA Tournament and for the first time since they went to back-to-back tournaments in 2018 and 2019 by way of the A-R-C automatic qualifier. The Spartans have won one NCAA Tournament game, that happened back in 1995 versus Concordia-Moorehead 3-1. The Spartans will be searching for the program's first win in the big dance in 29 years.
How the Spartans Got Here
An incredible regular season where the Spartans went 23-9 overall and a 6-2 conference regular season, the Spartans secured the No. 2 seed in the A-R-C Tournament. The Spartans would go on to defeat the No. 3 seed Nebraska Wesleyan University Prairie Wolves in four sets in the conference semifinals before a clean sweep of the No. 5 seed Wartburg College Knights in the conference title game to earn the automatic qualifier.
Scouting Case Western Reserve University
For the first time ever in program history, the Spartans will face the Spartans out of the UAA conference in volleyball. Case Western Reserve comes into the game with a 24-7 overall record. The only common opponent both teams have faced this season is the UW-Platteville Pioneers. Before the UAA conference tournament, Case Western was winners of six of their last seven regular season games.
