Spartans Conclude Season After A-R-C First Round Loss

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Women's Soccer began their postseason Saturday afternoon by hosting the First Round of the American Rivers conference Women's Soccer Tournament as #4 seed as they hosted #5 seed the Central College Dutch. The Spartans scored late, but lost 2-1 to the visiting Dutch on Oyen Field.

The Spartans had four shots in the opening half with three of those four being on goal. Kyla Seifert came out firing early with three shots in the first half with two of those being on goal. Bailey Brennan rounded out the shooting in the first half as her lone first half shot was on goal. The Spartans had the only corner kick of the half as they went into halftime trailing 1-0 to the Dutch.

The second half was an offensive frenzy for the Spartans as they ripped 11 shots in the second half. Emma Kober had three shots on the day with all of those being on goal. The Spartans did not quit after Central added another goal to go 2-0. The Spartans responded late in the half off a free kick. Virigina Speltz found the back of the net for her second goal of the season, which were assisted by Alyssa Tranchita and Emma Kober. The Spartans late momentum wound down as that clocked ticked away. With the win, the Dutch will now prepare to square off with #1 seed Loras College Duhawks in the next round of the tournament. The #3 seed Wartburg College enters the semifinals after defeating #6 seed Luther College in Waverly by a score of 1-0. With the win, the Knights will now head to the #2 seed Simpson College Storm

The Spartans finished their season 9-5-4, and 4-3-1 in A-R-C play. The A-R-C All-Conference Team will be announced on Nov. 13 at 12:00 p.m.
