PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - The University of Dubuque women's basketball team got off to a slow start on Tuesday night at UW-Platteville and were unable to overcome an early deficit as the Spartans fell to the Pioneers 64-51 from the Williams Fieldhouse.
Despite 15 points each from
Morgan Hawkins and
Brynn Haas, the Spartans got behind by 10 in the first quarter after shooting just 30.77% from the field and just couldn't sneak back into the game. The Spartans trailed by as many as 14 which came at the half, but used a strong third quarter to pull within as many as four points at 39-35 with just under three minutes left in the third quarter. The Spartans were within single digits with 7:14 left in the fourth quarter, but the Pioneers used an 11-4 run in the fourth to put the game out of reach.
Along with double-digit points, Hawkins added nine rebounds, four assists, and made three of the four Spartans three-pointers in the game. Haas added seven rebounds in 25 minutes on the floor.
The Spartans outscored the Pioneers off the bench 21-14 and had nearly half their points in the paint with 24.
The Spartans fall to 1-3 on the season.
