WAVERLY, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's tennis team was looking for their third consecutive American Rivers Conference dual meet win on Wednesday, but would lose the doubles point in a tightly contested 4-3 loss to the Wartburg College Knights.
UD would secure just the #3 doubles after
Kadia Cole and
Adriana Benavente captured the set in a 7-5 final score. The Spartans
Molly Jex and
Sarah Wilde lost #1 doubles 6-3 and #2 doubles team of
Jayda Floyd and
Breann Kieliszewski lost 7-5.
Molly Jex rallied to win the #1 singles match 6-2, 7-5 in windy conditions on the road.
Adriana Benavente at #2 singles dropped the match 6-2, 6-2.
Sarah Wilde captured #3 singles in extras after dropping the first set 4-6, won the second set 6-0, and won the tie-break 6-0.
Jayda Floyd won #4 singles for the Spartans after a 7-5, 6-2 score.
Breann Kieliszewski at #5 singles lost a third set marathon after losing 6-2 in first set, won the second set 7-5 and narrowly lost the third set 7-5.
Amelia Court lost #6 singles 6-1, 6-2.
The Spartans will face their longest trip of the fall when they make their way to Lincoln, Neb. to play the Nebraska Wesleyan University Prairiewolves on Friday, Oct. 4 at 4:00 p.m. before ending homecoming week in Storm Lake, Iowa against the Buena Vista University Beavers on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 10:00 a.m.
The A-R-C Individual Tournament hosted by Central College begins on Friday, Oct. 11 at 8:00 a.m. in Pella, Iowa.
