DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque got all they could from the UW-La Crosse Eagles, but the Spartans prevailed in a five set battle to move to 17-8 on the season.
The Spartans had the first set slip away from them after leading early 12-4, but quickly teh eagles took the lead after a 13-5 run. Both teams were knotted at 23-23 all, but the Eagles scored the final two points of the set. The second set was a battle, going back and forth and the Spartans were trailing 24-22 late and what seemed like an inevitable two set hole in the match, the Spartans rallied off four straight points to win the set.
With one set win each, the Spartans edged out the Eagles to win the third set. The Eagles responded with a win in the fourth set, setting up for an intense fifth set. The Spartans wasted no opportunities, and for the first time all afternoon, the set was in hand with the Spartans cruising 15-4 to win the match.
Four Spartans finished with double-digit kills as
Emma Powell,
Payton Uptagraft,
Caitlin Jensen, and
Delainey Winkel all reached the mark. Powell led the team with 12 kills.
Alexis Kammerer finished with 25 assists, while
Ashlyn McGinnis produced 17. Five Spartans had double-digit digs as
Taylor Bechen led with 23.
The Spartans move to 17-8 overall on the season.
