Men's Soccer Out Shoot Duhawks in Tie

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's soccer team finished the afternoon with more shots, more corner kicks in a draw with the Loras College Duhawks. Both teams held each other scoreless in the 0-0 tie on Oyen Field in ideal conditions for mid-October. 

UD's Matt Marchiori played a full 90 minutes in goal and stopped all four shots on goal. He grabbed one save in the opening 45 minutes and stopped three in the final period. The Spartans defense held the visiting Duhawks to just six shots and five corner kicks. The Duhawks finished with two shots on goal in the first period and managed four shots with two on goal in the second half.

Gavin Woolridge led UD in shots with four and three shots on goal. A trio of Spartans compiled two shots each. Ayi Enoch Ajavon played 54 minutes and finished with two shots, Sam Matthews added two in 83 minutes of action, and Zach Floss kicked two after 90 minutes of play. Jordan Fischer had a shot and a shot on goal in just 13 minutes of playing time. His shot on bottom center on goal happened in the final minute of play and was stopped by the Duahwk keeper. UD had 20 players see the pitch with eight finishing with a shot. The two teams combined for 14 fouls, but no cards were handed out in the competitive contest. The rival game has provided three ties (all at Oyen Field), and just one game has ended with more than goal advantage in the past six match-ups with the Duhawks.

The Spartans (4-7-2 overall, 1-2-1 in A-R-C) will host the UW-Platteville Pioneers on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 7:00 p.m. on Oyen Field. UD is 3-1-1 in the past five meetings with the Spartans largest margin of victory being 4-1 in 2021. UD will return to American Rivers Conference action on Saturday, Oct. 19 with they play under the lights of Abel Stadium in Lincoln, Neb. against the Nebraska Wesleyan Prairiewolves.
