EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - On Tuesday evening, the University of Dubuque men's soccer team traveled to face the No. 13 UW-Eau Claire Blugolds in their final road non-conference game of the season. The Blugolds (8-1-2) scored three goals to defeat the Spartans (4-5-1).
The Spartans got their first chance at a goal in the 15th minute as
Gavin Wooldridge's shot was sent to the top right corner of the goal, but was saved by the Blugolds keeper. Shortly after, the lone first half goal would be scored by the Blugolds.
In the second half the Blugolds scored twice in a four minute span to take a 3-0 lead with just over 30 minutes to play. The Spartans committed a penalty in the 64th minute, but
Matt Marchiori picked up a big-time save to prevent the Blugolds from adding on to their lead. Marchiori finished with a game-high six saves. The Spartans got one last shot on goal late in the game from
Sam Rainer, but the Blugold keeper made another save.

The Spartans return to conference play after winning the A-R-C opener against Wartburg 2-1. The Central College Dutch travel to Oyen field on homecoming Saturday with first kick set for 3:30 p.m. after the women's game.
