#24 Spartans Defeat Beavers for 13th Consecutive Win

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The #24 ranked University of Dubuque men's basketball team won their 13th consecutive game to open the season on Saturday after a competitive game with the Buena Vista University Beavers by a final of 85-74.

The duo of Jaylin McCants and Brock Simon led the Spartans with 23 points each. Simon was perfect from three going 3-3 and 4-4 from the free throw line in 35 minutes of action. Grady Thompson, Dylan Anderson, and Sam Kilburg also scored in double figures for the Spartans. Kilburg dished out seven assists in the win and only had one turnover.

The Beavers battled with the Spartans for a majority of the game, but the Spartans were able to control the game in the later stages by getting to the basket and knocking down their free throws. The Spartans ended the game 23-28 (82.1%) from the charity stripe and finished the game shooting 51.0% from the field.

Hear from Robbie Sieverding
"BV played well tonight and they were the more aggressive team especially early. We need to continue to watch film and find ways to improve on both ends but it was good seeing our guys stick together and find a way. Brock has played really well the last couple games and Jaylin was very good tonight as well. Sam has also been doing a really nice job running our team and ended with seven assists to just one turnover tonight. Coe is playing really well and we will have to play much better for 40 minutes to be successful in Cedar Rapids."

The Spartans have now defeated 12 of their 13 opponents by double digits to open the season as they are now 13-0 overall and 5-0 in conference play.

Up Next
The Spartans now start a tough three game stretch that starts next Wednesday night in Cedar Rapids as the Spartans will face the (RV) Coe College Kohawks who are 13-1 overall and 5-0 in conference play. The Kohawks are currently on a 10 game win streak. McCants is also etching closer to 1,000 career points with 985 total points. With 15 against Coe on Wednesday, McCants will become the 25th Spartan to achieve this feat.
