DUBUQUE, Iowa - Saturday afternoon the University of Dubuque Spartans concluded their regular season series against #5 Adrian College Bulldogs. The Spartans scored in the third period but fell 9-1.
Adrian scored four times in the first twenty minutes of action.
Madilynn Schiile and
Olivia Hodges each had a shot on goal but was fended off by the Bulldogs goalkeeper. The Spartans put together their best defensive period in the second as Adrian only scored twice on 28 shot attempts. At the end of two, the Spartans trailed 6-0.Â
After an Adrian goal three minutes into the third, the Spartans controlled the faceoff at center ice and
Arwen Sims was on the attack. At 3:28 of the final period, Sims notched her first goal as a Spartan. In the late minutes Adrian tacked on two more goals as the Spartans lost 9-1.
The Spartans ripped off 10 shots as
Libby Plath attempted three while Hodges finished with two. Hodges won half of the teams faceoffs with 12 followed by
Chloe Byma with nine and
Gracie Hall with three. A trio of Spartan defenders,
Samantha Eldridge,
Sarah Parker, and
Ava Dedrick finished with three blocked shots each. In goal,
Savannah Wuitschick set a new program record with a season high 75 saves (19,26,30) in the full 60 minutes of play.

The Spartans will remain at home next weekend for a series against Lake Forest College. Game one is scheduled for Friday, February 2nd at 2:00 p.m. The following day Saturday, February 3rd the Spartans will celebrate senior day.Â
