DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque Spartans welcomed back the Vikings of Lawrence University for game two of the regular season series. Early on the Spartans fell behind and were unable to complete a comeback resulting in a 4-1 loss.
The Vikings came out of the gates hot as they scored within the opening minute of play. Once again the Vikings scored at the 9:38 mark of the first period as the Spartans trailed 2-0 through twenty minutes. Neither team found the back of the net in the second period. Spartans goalie,
Chris Curr saved 20 shots in the second period. On the other end, the Spartans tacked on nine shots led by
Thomas Gazich with three along with
Max Erstad and
Phil Schader with two each.Â
After another Vikings goal to start the third period the Spartans found the back of the net. At 5:53 of the third, the Spartans scored off of
Langley Kruggel's first collegiate goal from assists by
James Eng and
Nate Holm. A few minutes later, the Vikings scored the last goal of the game as the Spartans lost 4-1.
The Spartans attempted 25 shots in total compared to the Vikings 54. On the faceoffs, the Spartans won 35-75 led by Eng (7-12),
Jake Lamberty (5-10), and
Max Messier (5-10). Curr played all 60 minutes in goal as he recorded 50 saves (9,20,21).Â

The Spartans will begin their road trip next week as they travel to Michigan to take on Adrian College. The first game of the series is scheduled to start on Friday, January 26th at 6:00 p.m.
