DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's basketball team snapped their three game skid on Saturday afternoon taking down the Simpson College Storm. The Spartans trailed by nine at the half and then outscored the Storm by 17 points in the second half to win 75-66 inside the Stoltz Sports Center.
The Spartans opened up with a quick 6-0 lead as
Sam Kilburg and
Dylan Anderson knocked down shots from the three-point line. The Spartans led by four points on two different occasions in the first half and trailed 30-31 with 2:23 left in the first half. The Storm finished the first half on a 8-0 run to lead 31-39.
The Spartans opened the second half quickly falling behind by 11 points which was the biggest deficit the Spartans faced all game. The Spartans answered their largest deficit with a 18-0 run over nearly eight minutes to completely flip the game to the Spartans as they led 55-44 with 10:26 remaining in the game. Simpson fought back to get within one with 5:47 remaining, but the Spartans got stops down the stretch and hit timely free throws to get a much needed conference victory.

"I thought the second half we finally put some really good possessions together on both ends. Sunday gave us great energy off the bench and was key to our success. We have a big game with Nebraska Wesleyan who is playing as good as anyone in the country over the past few weeks."
Jaylin McCants finished with a game-high 21 points on 50% shooting from the field and eight rebounds. Kilburg added 19 points and
Brock Simon scored 10 of his 12 points from the charity stripe going 10-11 from the line. Simon also dished out seven assists in the win. Anderson knocked down three big shots from beyond the arc on his way to 11 points.
The Spartans shot 25-55 (45.5%) from the field and greatly improved from the free throw line this time out going 18-24 (75%).
The Spartans move to 14-3 overall and 6-3 in conference play.
