MEQUON, Wis. - After a scoreless opening period, the Spartans scored first in the second to grab a 1-0 lead. UD scored twice in the third period to collect their first win ever in school history on the road over the Concordia University Falcons (Wis.) by a 3-0 mark in their 15th game of the inaugural season.
Mother Nature was the victory on Friday night as the game was postponed until Sunday, Jan. 14 at 11:00 a.m. UD opened Saturday with a goal by
Phil Schader at 6:00 in the second off an assist by
Max Messier. Messier would collect the second score of the period at 18:22 off assists by Schader and and
Patrick Donnelly to extend the Spartans lead to 2-0 after two periods .
Lyncoln Bielenberg-Howarth grabbed the empty netter near the end of the game at 19:07 of the third period off assists by
Max Erstad and
Brandon Rossetti to extend the Spartans victory to three goals for Head Coach
Seamus Gregory. Earning the win in net was
Chris Curr who played 59:56 and ended the night with 44 saves (11 in the 1st, 18 in the 2nd, and 15 in the 3rd) to improve his record to 1-2-0 overall. Twenty Spartans saw action and 15 collected a shot in the victory.
Nick Wieben grabbed six shots,
Max Messier finished with five and
Brandon Rossetti had three.
The Spartans won 26 and lost 33 face offs.
Patrick Toomey and
Thomas Gazich both won seven and lost six face offs. UD had three power-play opportunities and ended the advantages with four shots.
The men (1-12-2 overall, 1-8 in NCHA) will look to a back-to-back wins when they match-up on Sunday, Jan. 14 at 11:00 a.m.
