WAUWATOSA, Wisconsin - Friday afternoon, the University of Dubuque women's volleyball team made the three hour trek northeast to the campus of Wisconsin Lutheran College (WLC), home of the Warriors for a quad this weekend. The Spartans only match this evening was against the Warriors as they won 3-1.
Halfway through the first set, neither team could gain any separation from each other. Thanks to a 4-0 run, fueled by two kills from
Emma Powell, the Spartans increased their largest lead of the set to seven (16-9). The Warriors were unable to overcome the deficit as the Spartans went on to take set one 25-20.
The second set was a tale of two runs. Early on the Warriors were on the beneficiary side of an 8-0 run to take a 15-7 lead. The next 11 points belonged to the Spartans they stormed back with an emphatic run seizing the lead at 18-15. During the run,
Ashlee Adler served up two aces and a kill while Powell had three kills and
Alexis Adkins recorded two. Nearing the end of the set, the Spartans took advantage of the Warriors miscues leading to another set win 25-19.
In the third set the Spartans fell from behind early on and were not able to complete the comeback as they lost 25-23. The fourth and final set was all Spartans as they secured the match win with a dominating performance outscoring the Warriors 25-10. The Spartans tallied an attacking percentage of 28% connecting on 10 kills of the 25 attempts.
Emma Powell led the Spartans offensively as she posted 19 kills on 49 attempts.
Ashlee Adler led the team with 21 digs and also had 8 kills. The Spartans finished the night with 41 assists while
Ashlyn McGinnis dished out more than half with 26.

The Spartans will wrap up the WLC quad tomorrow with two more games against University of Wisconsin-Stout and Benedictine. Both games will take place at the Time of Grace Center on court 2.
