WAVERLY, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's soccer team couldn't find the back of the net in their conference opener against the Wartburg College Knights as they would lose in a shutout 3-0.
The first half would be scoreless from both sides before Wartburg got on the board in the 53rd minute. Not even a minute later, the Knights struck again to increase their lead to 2-0. The Spartans fought to claw their way back into the game, but the Knights got their third goal in the 71st minute putting it out of reach.
Brandon Kaup returned off an injury for the Spartans and had two shots on goal in five shot attempts to lead the Spartans.

Luca Friederich, and
Paul Schlattmann each had a shot on goal this afternoon against the Spartans.
Matt Marchiori played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded five saves while allowing the three goals.
The Spartans move to 2-6-1 on the season and 0-1 in conference play.
