Box Score PELLA, Iowa - After a week off, due to the cancelation against University of Wisconsin-Platteville, the Spartans returned to the soccer field and earned their first conference win of the season. The Spartans faced a 2-0 deficit at the half, but rallied for three goals in the second half to secure the 3-2 victory over the Central College Dutch.
Through the first 30 minutes of action, both teams were kept quiet offensively. The Dutch were first on the scoreboard with a goal at 30:42 and then scored another goal late in the end of the first half. Entering the break the Spartans trailed 2-0, attempting six shots in the opening half.
The Spartans comeback started in the 64th minute off a goal from
Drew Wisdom. Just seconds later, Wisdom netted his second goal of the game tying the game at 2-2. Over the next few minutes both teams traded possessions but could not find the back of the goal. In the 81st minute, Wisdom continued his dominance as he recorded his first collegiate hat-trick with his third goal of the game giving the Spartans 3-2 lead. In the final minutes, the Dutch had an opportunity to tie the game but a save from
Matt Marchiori denied the Dutch giving the Spartans the win.
The Spartans finished the game with a total of 15 shots while holding the Dutch to only three. Wisdom led the attack with 5 shots while
Luca Friederich,
Carson Kowalski,
Jose Serra each had two. Marchiori earned his third win of the year playing the full 90 minutes posting one save on the evening.
