ELMHURST, Ill. - On Wednesday evening the University of Dubuque men's soccer team hit the road for their third away game of the season against non-conference opponent, Elmhurst College Bluejays. After trailing 3-0 at the half, the Spartans rallied in the late minutes to force a 3-3 tie.
Through the first twenty minutes of play neither team could find the back of the net. Soon after the Bluejays struck first with a goal to take the early lead. After the Spartans were unable to capitalize on a few corner kicks, the Bluejays tacked on two more goals within five minutes of each other. The Spartans went into the half facing a 3-0 deficit.
Out of the break, the Spartans had a golden opportunity as a foul occurred in the penalty box resulting in a penalty kick.
Carson Kowalski took advantage and got the Spartans on the scoreboard with his third goal of the season. As time kept trickling down on the clock the Spartans still trailed 3-1 with 11 minutes to go. In the 79th minute,
Jonny Wiggins cut the Bluejay lead to one with his first goal of the season. Down to the last two minutes of the game, a pass from
Jose Serra found Kowalski who netted his second goal of the game, knotting the scoreboard at 3-3. The Bluejays had one final chance with a shot off target as the Spartans ended with a 3-3 tie.
Offensively, Kowalski led the attack with two goals on four shots. The Spartans had a total of 14 shots as
Michael Poitry tacked on three while
Brandon Kaup added two. The Spartans utilized the bench as a total of 19 Spartans saw action. Goalkeeper
Matt Marchiori played the full 90 minutes and recorded two saves in the tie.

The Spartans will start conference play this Saturday as they travel to Waverly, Iowa to take on the Wartburg College Knights. The game is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.
