RIPON, Wisconsin - Saturday afternoon the University of Dubuque women's volleyball team closed out their first tournament of the season by adding another two wins remaining undefeated. The Spartans opened up with a sweep against Mount Mary University followed by a four set win over Milwaukee School of Engineering.
In the first match against the Blue Angels of Mount Mary University, the Spartans dominated all facets off the game winning all three sets by scores of (25-13, 25-13, 25-9). The Spartans tallied a total of 19 kills in the opening set for an exceptional hitting percentage of 40.5%. Senior,
Alexis Adkins recorded a team-high four service aces including the final two points to close out the first set.
Emma Powell added five of her 14 kills to take control of the second set. Throughout the match, a total of 19 Spartans saw action on the court. A trio of Spartans which featured
Payton Uptagraft,
Alexis Bedier, and
Alexis Adkins all finished with five kills. Setters,
Ashlyn McGinnis and
Alexis Kammerer combined for a total of 32 assists in the win.
The Spartans had a quick turnaround as they faced the Raiders of Milwaukee School of Engineering right after their first win of the day. In the first set, the Spartans never trailed as they jumped out to an early 10-3 lead which propelled them to a 25-14 win. With momentum on their side, the Spartans took the second set 25-15.
Ashlee Adler led the charge with 4 kills in the second set followed by Powell and Adkins both with three. After dropping the third set, the Spartans bounced back with a controlling 25-15 victory to secure the match win. The duo for the Spartans, Powell and Adler finished with 15 kills each while Bedier tallied nine. Defensive specialist,
Katie Wright recorded 29 of the team's 85 digs in the win.Â
The Spartans were the only school to have multiple players named to the All-Tournament Team with
Emma Powell and
Ashlee Adler receiving the honors. In four matches Powell finished with a total of 72 points and 64 kills while Adler added 42 points and 37 kills.Â

The Spartans will have a few days off before they hit the road for a non-conference matchup against Cornell College on Wednesday, September 6th. The match is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
