DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's tennis team was able to secure a split on Saturday after losing to Monmouth 2-7 and then winning a tight match with UW-Stout 5-4.
In the Monmouth match, #1 and #2 doubles would fall, but #3 doubles was able to pull out an 8-7 victory led by
Abby Drost and
Tatiana Ptaszek. In singles,
Hayden Warner would fall 3-6, 3-6 in #1 singles.
Adriana Benavente, Drost, and Ptaszek all fell in their singles matches. The Spartans got their second match win against Monmouth as
Amelia Court won #6 singles in comeback fashion 6-7, 7-5, 10-3.
In the second match of the day, the Spartans would battle UW-Stout. The Spartans took 2/3 doubles matches as the team of Warner/
Breann Kieliszewski won by a point 8-7. Benavente and
Qi Zhang won #2 doubles by an 8-7 score as well. The top three singles matches with Warner (#1), Benavente (#2), and Kieliszewski (#3) all belonged to the Spartans before the final three singles would go to UW-Stout.
