DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque ended Holy Week with a strong showing from the pitching staff. A couple of plays and UD might have finished 4-0. Ending the week with a sweep of Nebraska Wesleyan University Prairiewolves was an early delivery from the Easter Bunny. UD won the opening game 2-1 after grabbing four hits. In the second, UD found their offense and finished the day early in five innings after putting up nine runs in 12 hits while holding the Prairiewolves to one run in seven hits.
Ally Gullette earned the win in the opener after facing 26 batters allowed one earned run in five hits and struck out six.
Deanna Salerno grabbed the lone RBI and
Bella Allison,
Dariann Diorio,
Madyson Dwight, and
Bella Como all had a hit in the win.
Jaelyn Blakemore collected her first American Rivers Conference victory in game two. She tossed five complete innings faced 22 batters, allowed just one earned run and seven hits while fanning two batters.
A trio of Spartans would compile two RBI's each.
Deanna Salerno went 3-4, scored twice and had two RBI's.
Megan Leick went 1-3 with two RBI's and
Madyson Dwight was 2-2 with two RBI's. Grace Lagerhaus went 2-3 with an RBI. The Spartans played errorless on Saturday and would leave nine runners on base in game one and eight runners on base in game two. Defensively UD turned a pair of double plays.
The Spartans host the Wartburg College Knights (11-11 overall, 1-1 in A-R-C) at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 11 in Dubuque.
